Brad Alsop
Brad Alsop was raised in central Illinois, where pheasant and deer hunting were more than mere hobbies. Hunting, along with working on the farm, was simply a way of life.
Brad joined the Army at the age of 18 where he spent four months in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering from SIUC in Southern Illinois. Brad's passion for waterfowling grew during this time in Southern Illinois (then the disputed goose capital of the world). Brad enjoyed waterfowl hunting every day of the season, even if it meant spending an hour in the blind before class and getting less than four hours of sleep each day between studying and waterfowling.
Brad went on to become an avid bow hunter for whitetailed deer with his brother Scott and his nephew Scottie, spending almost everyday of each season in the woods pursuing this majestic animal. He obtained sole access to over 2,500 acres of farm ground in Southern Illinois through the old fashion method of trading sweat labor on the farm for hunting rights. Brad strongly believes that building a solid relationship with farmers and land owners is one of the most important factors for maintaining hunting as a sport for future generations.
Brad's passion for waterfowl hunting was cultivated while watching Fred Zink's early goose hunting videos. Brad and Brian Bowers met and became good friends on a goose hunt in Southern Illinois in 2000. Brad then met Fred Zink for the first time in 2001, the same year that Zink Calls was founded. Brad and Brian Bowers began hunting with Fred Zink and Clay and Field Hudnall over the next several years. Brad says that this is when his waterfowl hunting was taken to the next level, "These guys (Brian, Fred, Field, and Clay) were so dedicated to waterfowl hunting that each person had something to add and every hunt was a new learning experience."
Brad currently resides in Washington State and has been a Mechanical Engineer in the Aerospace Industry for the last 12 years. He maintains his connection to members of the military by continuing to design cutting edge technology for military aircraft. Brad continues to bow hunt throughout the Midwest and chases waterfowl from the Mississippi Flyway to the Pacific Flyway. Along with hunting, Brad enjoys his yearly salmon fishing trips on the Kenai River in Alaska.
Outside of being in the field, Brad enjoys listening to everyone's views about waterfowl hunting and he continues to learn more about the sport from the people he comes into contact with. Brad is an avid proponent of ethical hunting. He also brings his open-mindedness and eagerness for learning to Zink Calls. Brad's favorite place to hunt is wherever the duck's and geese are.
