Kevin Meier
Growing up in the "middle of Minnesota", Kevin, age 33, appreciated the outdoor opportunities surrounding him. Kevin was born and raised in Sauk Centre, Minnesota and currently resides in Sartell, Minnesota with his wife and two children. Kevin spends his days as a construction superintendent, however is always thinking of new and innovative ways to hunt the Canada Goose.
Since the early age of eight, shadowing his dad from pothole to pothole was Kevin's introduction to waterfowling. When the opportunity came for Kevin to shoot his own ducks, floating the backyard river became the weekend ritual. This is where the first duck was shot - a hen Mallard.
Fishing, deer hunting, and sporting activities took a back seat when the first Canada goose responded to Kevin's blowing of his first goose call. It was not until he met Fred Zink that he understood the "science" involved in hunting and calling geese. Kevin was inspired by Fred's knowledge and expertise in the waterfowling industry and started to blow Zink's acrylic Paralyzer SR-1 goose call. In addition to the acrylic, Kevin needed to have the wood Paralyzer SR-1. The pair now hang on Kevin's lanyard along with Zink's Power clucker, Little Man, Power Maximus, Paralyzer XR-2, and the Power Hen. Kevin believes that in order to fool the "smartest" geese, one needs to have the best equipment and technique.
Central Minnesota field hunting is Kevin's preferred method and region to hunt. Field hunting requires the need for strategic pre-hunt planning. This planning can be as exciting and intense as the actual hunt. Kevin takes the role of chief when it comes to organizing, scouting, calling, and teaching his hunting group. According to Kevin, one benefit of hunting close to home is being able to hunt with friends, family, and most recently his son Spencer.
Kevin is always ready and eager to "talk the talk" with anyone willing to listen. Kevin finds himself at local retail stores in the waterfowl department waiting for the opportunity to promote Zink Calls. The passion Kevin feels for hunting and calling Canada geese is evident on hunting mornings when three alarm clocks ring, guaranteeing an on time arrival for the morning hunt. Kevin adds that he rarely needs the alarm clocks to wake him.
Kevin's life philosophy is that everyone should have a passion for something; like he does for goose hunting.
Kevin invites anyone interested in calling lessons, hunting tips, or exchanging hunting stories to give him a call. Kevin can be reached at 320-255-9628.
